The volatility of the business environment and the growing focus on achieving short-term goals have made the quality of management in many companies decline continuously over the past 10 years. In fact, many global studies indicate this, and at the same time show that this was the context that led to a growing focus on leaders and leadership.

If managers coordinate their teams from proximity and are responsible for achieving results systematically, in a predictable and scalable way, leaders are the ones who lead by influence, as they provide the model that inspires and motivates all company employees. Leaders develop and communicate the vision and mission of the company, create an organizational culture that facilitates alignment of values and team collaboration, all in the context of a growth mentality about employees, customers, suppliers, and community.

  1. The leader defines and communicates the company’s mission to the market

As a serial entrepreneur who has set up and led several companies, I understand why a company must have a clear message for customers, employees, suppliers, and business partners. The difficulty results from the fact that each of these categories has a different angle from which it sees and perceives the company. Communicating, in the same way, the vision that the entrepreneur has for the company is not always enough or relevant to all these target audiences. The result is that everyone can get confused and employees may start wondering what their purpose in this company is. That is why the leader must be able to define and communicate the company’s mission so that employees, customers, business partners, the community in which the company operates resonate with this mission, give it meaning and can contribute to its achievement.

  1. The leader creates the organizational culture that leads to the alignment of values

The organizational culture is essential for both multinational and entrepreneurial companies. What happens in the organization, in the absence of the bosses, when there are situations for which there is no article in the company’s procedures book is very important. All companies need processes and procedures, but it’s not good to operate only on this basis. That is why, as a leader and entrepreneur, I have the greatest contribution to transforming the values of our company into behaviors relevant to all my colleagues. At the same time, it is important for me to support all these values, to be a role model and to create a working environment in which the values of every team member align with the values of the company.

  1. The leader creates the context to highlight the strengths of others

One of the things I have learned since the early years of entrepreneurship was that people want to succeed. Perhaps they are not always aware or confident in their strengths, but they feel full of energy and confidence when they see that they are successful. And when people love their occupation, they become passionate about it and want to do their best to become even better. In my opinion, when a leader can inspire colleagues to love what they do because they have trust in each other and each in themselves, people become passionate about what they do and do not think they come to work. On the contrary, they are always self-motivated to think about the ways in which they can succeed in being more efficient, more customer-oriented, more creative, more innovative.

  1. It is the leader that shows how confidence is established inside and outside the company

Whether we are talking about an inspirational or a less experienced leader, the way of work and his behaviors are taken over by many others within the company. On the other hand, business partners, customers, and suppliers will carefully observe how the leader interacts externally with the company and will decide whether they can trust it. That’s why I’ve always been aware of the importance of the personal example. I have realized that beyond my working style, my decision-making model, my risk-taking appetite, the ability to provide good judgments, and the communication style will be considered a roadmap to success by the other colleagues. That’s why I’ve always been involved in personal development programs because I believe that continuous learning is the best way to perfect my leadership skills. And the results have always been very good and have brought me to fulfillment.

A few thoughts at the end of the article

The leader’s ability to understand his role and the capacity to fulfill this role will make the difference in the company. Being a leader in the day-to-day business of a rapidly growing entrepreneurial business does not provide a simple or easy-to-manage way to grow the company. The dynamics of every situation, the speed of business expansion and the steady growth of the team make the effort of leading, inspiring, and aligning of people’s and company’s values a complex and challenging task. The elements described above are essential, but they are not the only ones you should consider as a leader. That’s why I invite you to continue exploring and accessing your potential, always focusing on these four essential aspects.
